Are these bags really compostable?
They are! Tiny Box Company's range of bags are 100% compostable when disposed of in the correct way. Different items may be suitable for home composting along with your food waste and crushed eggshells, while others may only be suitable for industrial composting. For individual composting requirements, please see the individual product descriptions.
Do compostable bags break down in landfill?
While it is technically possible that your bag may break down in a landfill, we do not recommend any form of disposal other than the individual recommended disposal methods for each product. If a bag is home compostable, that means it can go in your regular home compost bin alongside fallen leaves, vegetable peelings, grass cuttings, and food waste. If however a bag is not suitable for home compost, it must be sent to an industrial composting facility.
How long does it take for a compostable bag to decompose?
Individual composting times vary, depending both on material and size of the fragments.
What are the benefits of using a compostable bag?
There are many benefits to using compostable packaging, the largest of which is that they're able to fully break down in the environment to help provide nutrients for future growth, and won't damage the environment in its disposal. Another is that they're normally made using renewable materials like wood pulp, which are often made using recycled paper or cardboard egg boxes, and cornstarch. This means that they're produced in a more sustainable way than non-compostable alternatives.
Can compostable bags go in the home compost bin?
Some compostable products are only able to be composted at industrial composting sites due to the temperature requirements, as well as other factors. Please check the individual product page for the correct compost methods.
How do I store these compostable bags?
We recommend storing your bags in a cool, dry place to avoid moisture damage and away from direct sunlight to avoid fading. We also recommend that you store plastic alternatives like our clear cello bags and our cornstarch mailing bags away from strong odours.
