“What’s Galentine’s Day? Oh, it’s only the best day of the year!” Yep that’s right - made famous by the iconic Leslie Knope from Parks and Rec, Galentine’s Day (February 13th) is all about celebrating the amazing women in your life.

Whether you’re single, taken, or somewhere in between, this is the perfect excuse to shower your besties with love, appreciation, and maybe a mojito or two? Here’s how to make the most of this cute occasion:

How to celebrate Galentine's Day

1. Host a cosy dinner party

Nothing says love like a home-cooked meal (or takeaway from your favourite spot - no judgment). Set up a gorgeous tablescape with candles and a playlist filled with empowering anthems. Bonus points if you create a fun, themed menu - think pink cocktails, heart-shaped charcuterie boards, or even a pizza buffet.

Or you could go for brunch - round up your squad and hit up your favourite spot for eggs, hash browns, perhaps a few cocktails, and a whole load of jokes and laughter. I mean, what’s not to love? Sounds fabulous to me!

2. Fancy a sleepover?

I don’t know about you, but it’s been ages since I’ve had a sleepover. Gather your girls for a night of pure relaxation - stock up on face masks, fluffy dressing gowns, and essential oils for an at-home spa experience. Paint each other’s nails, sip some tea, and binge-watch your favourite comfort shows - maybe starting with the Parks and Rec Galentine’s Day episode? (I'd thoroughly recommend!)

Or how about a night of classic chick flicks? Legally Blonde, Bridesmaids, and The Devil Wears Prada are all solid choices. You could even pair whatever you watch with a wine-tasting experience at home - everyone brings their favourite bottle, and you all sip and rate them like the sophisticated queens you are.

3. Gift your pals something special

Valentine’s Day shouldn’t be the only day you exchange gifts! Show your appreciation to your pals with thoughtful gifts like jewellery or handwritten letters, or put together Galentine’s Day gift bags with skincare products, candles, and cute friendship bracelets.

In Parks and Rec, Leslie gifted the ladies a bouquet of hand-crocheted flower pens, a mosaic portrait made from crushed bottles of their favourite diet soda, and a personalised 5,000 word essay on why they are all so awesome… Okay, they sound quite tricky to do, but you get the idea!

4. A weekend getaway

If you and your crew are up for an adventure, why not take a mini-trip? Soak up the sun on a beach somewhere either local or abroad, or book a cosy cabin escape, a city break, or even a theme park! Whatever you choose, a girls’ getaway is the ultimate way to bond and make unforgettable memories.

5. Get active!

Are there any activities you’d like to do as a group? Set up a friendly sports tournament, like football or volleyball, for example, for a more lively Galentine’s Day celebration. Either way, it’ll help you bond while introducing a little (friendly) competition, and it could start a tradition that lasts long after February is over!

Or, bond over a new skill! Whether it’s a painting class, a baking workshop, or a dancing lesson, trying something new together is a fun and empowering way to celebrate your friendship. Plus, you’ll have an amazing story to tell afterwards!

Why celebrate Galentine’s Day?

Valentine’s Day often puts so much emphasis on romantic love, but we reckon friendships deserve just as much attention. Your friends are the ones who hype you up, listen to your rants, and celebrate your wins. Galentine’s Day is about recognising the love and support they bring to your life and making sure they feel just as cherished as any romantic partner would.

So, whether you go all out or keep it low-key, celebrating Galentine’s Day is the perfect way to remind your besties just how much they mean to you. Plus, who really needs an excuse for brunch, wine, and laughter?
