Want to inject some festive fun into Christmas Eve? Christmas Eve boxes could be the way!
So full disclosure, the idea of Christmas Eve boxes are slightly foreign to me. Cue Monty Python's "Four Yorkshiremen" sketch, when I were a lad present for Christmas day, the best one might get the night before was a sneak peek under the tree and a handful of chocolate.
What are Christmas Eve boxes?
Christmas Eve boxes are becoming more and more popular as a way of bringing some festive fun before the big day. They come in all shapes and sizes, but at their core they're a box or basket filled with Christmas treats and/or toys to tide you or the little ones over until the next morning, much like Christmas stockings.
Where does the Christmas Eve box come from?
Believed to be of German origin, Christmas Eve boxes are creeping into British culture as a way to let the adults and children get into the excitement and fun early. These days, the whole family is getting in on the action by sharing treats a day early
How do you fill a Christmas Eve box?
There are no hard and fast rules on what you choose to fill your Christmas Eve box with, as with the best gifts, each one is entirely unique. The magic of Christmas is of course not filling them with the best gadgets and gizmos, but putting genuine thought and effort into each one.
I promise not to turn this into another listicle, but just so you don't have to spend hours thinking of what to pop into your Christmas Eve box:
You can never go wrong with sweet treats
Naturally, sweets and chocolate are a favourite for kids and grown ups alike.
Some festive PJ's and slippers perhaps
Cuddling up in fresh pyjamas is a feeling second to none, and I can think of no better way to wait for Father Christmas.
Get personal with a handwritten note
In an age where the handwritten letter is definitely in decline, take the time to jot a few thoughts and feelings down for that special someone in your life, for bonus points, reply to the kid's letter to Santa. You could even take a blank sticker and design your own North Pole stamps for a really special touch.
A box of fun and games
Christmas is a time to come together, so why not fill some of the time playing some games? Alternatively get together to paint a special Christmas scene with the kids (or your significant other)
