Suitable for any occasion, the humble ribbon is the ultimate accessory to elevate your packaging or to go that extra mile for gifts to family and friends. We have a range of high-quality ribbons for you to choose from, including satin and grosgrain, to help make your gifts that extra bit special!
Recycled PET ribbon: Our eco-friendly ribbon range includes options made from recycled plastic bottles. These bottles are salvaged from waste and transformed through processes that drastically reduce environmental impact, eliminating the creation of virgin yarn and the need for raw materials. Also helps to stop plastic bottles from ending up in landfills.
What makes this ribbon so eco-friendly:
- The ribbon is produced using 100% post-consumer waste plastic in the form of PET plastic bottles.
- No oil is extracted from the ground to create virgin yarn to weave the ribbon.
Double-faced satin ribbon: Satin ribbons are classic, smooth, and have a beautiful sheen that adds elegance to any project. They’re perfect for formal gifts, weddings, and events where you want a touch of glamour!
Double-faced means both sides have the same luxurious finish, making them ideal for bows.
Grosgrain ribbon: With its distinct ribbed texture, grosgrain ribbon is durable and gives a more structured look. It’s excellent for projects that need a bit more strength, such as wrapping around gift boxes or creating detailed bows for gift bags.
We also have grosgrain ribbon with a stitched edge - providing a great contrast and finishing touch to your package or gift.
Wood pulp ribbon: We also offer acetate yarn ribbon which is made from pine and eucalyptus trees that are FSC and/or PEFC certified, which has a slit edge and slight shine to the finish.
The process:
Wood chips are treated with acetic acid (the main ingredient in vinegar), to produce a solution and release cellulose (the key component of plant cell walls). This cellulose is then dissolved in acetone (similar to nail varnish remover), turning it into a thick liquid. The process includes recycling the acetone and maintaining a closed-loop system.
This thick liquid is passed through a filtration system (to remove any impurities) before being extruded to make filament, which in turn produces a 59% bio-based yarn.
Tencel ribbon: Tencel is made from the wood pulp of spruce and eucalyptus trees. Produced through a sustainable, closed-loop process, resulting in the Tencel fibres, these fibres are certified as biodegradable (soil, water and marine) and compostable (home and industrial). The fibres are spun to create a yarn which is then woven to create the finished product.
What makes this ribbon so eco-friendly:
The methodology above is called the Lyocell process and Tencel™ is a brand name. Lenzing recovers and reuses more than 99% of the organic solvent, resulting in a 100% bio based yarn. Plus, they recycle and reuse their water from the process, creating an almost 100% closed loop system.
Twine: Twine is an ideal choice for a rustic, handmade vibe - great for pairing with kraft paper or natural materials and bringing an earthy, organic look that’s perfect for farmhouse-style decor or eco-friendly packaging.
How to use ribbon from Tiny Box Company
Classic bows: A simple bow can make any gift look elegant. To add volume, use a wider ribbon or layer two types of ribbon for a multi-dimensional effect.
Ribbon accents for gift boxes: Tie ribbon around a gift box in a crisscross pattern or wrap multiple thin ribbons in a striped pattern - satin or grosgrain both work well for structured looks.
Decorative wrapping: Wrap ribbon around a bottle of wine to add elegance, or use twine with a kraft box for an earthy vibe.
Layering ribbons: Layer two or three ribbons of different textures and widths. For example, layer a thin satin ribbon on top of a wider grosgrain ribbon for contrast.
Choosing the right ribbon
When selecting ribbon, consider the occasion, recipient, and theme. Satin adds elegance for upscale events, while grosgrain and twine are more casual and playful. Colour is also crucial - neutral tones for classic looks, metallics for sparkle, and bright colours for bold statements.
We can also brand and personalise your ribbon in-house at Tiny Box Company - choose your base colour and design, and our team will help you brand your packaging, including logo placement and selecting colour foils. Check out some examples of our printed and branded ribbon here.
